The Swan Islands are a chain of three small Caribbean islands around 180 miles southwest of Grand Cayman. These are wild and remote islands and have no permanent population. The Swan Islands are and not on the usual route to Honduras, Guatemala or Belize. The islands are occupied only by a very small (6 or 7 people) military garrison from Honduras. They offer no amenities.

The CoralS around the island has been unaffected by tourism and pollution from the land and is reputed to be the best in the Caribbean. Sylvia Earle, a National Geographic Explorer and an advocate for protection of the Mesoamerican reef system, has dubbed the reefs around the Swan Islands as the “Galapagos of the Caribbean.” She refers to these healthy reefs as “hope spots”

If you have a sense of adventure, love bluewater sailing and want to visit somewhere beautiful that few people have ever seen, then the Swan Islands Could be the place for you.

The Islands are not stay like this forever. Swan Island Developers announced  plans to develop approximately 1000 acres, into the “ultimate Caribbean destination. The development concept is intended to allow guests to experience Polynesia, Venice, Monaco, England the Caribbean and world class entertainment, all from one fantastic island paradise”.

Sample 6 Day Travel Itinerary to the Swan Islands

DAY 1 : Grand Cayman to Swan Islands (180 nm)

Leave in the morning and enjoy a brisk sail south-west  towards the Swan Islands, with plenty of fishing along the way. There is a good chance of catching  mahi mahi and tuna that can  be enjoyed as fresh as it comes. Expect to arrive in the Swan Islands around lunch time the next day.

DAY 2 : Explore Great Swan

Explore this remote island with it’s white beaches, dramatic cliffs, and few inhabitants. Perhaps try some Fly fishing, or spinning across the flats. Cook any fresh catches for dinner on the boat.

DAY 3 : Spend the day fishing remote grounds with hardly a boat in sight. Snorkel and enjoy the wonderful marine life. In the evening,you can enjoy dinner with the local inhabitants ( the young servicemen who are there on assignment)

DAY 4 : Explore Little Swan Island

Enjoy a day of exploring, fishing, snorkelling, or resting. In the evening, we take take a sunset cruise.

DAY 5/6 : Swan Islands to Grand Cayman (180nm)

We leave in the morning sailing and fishing on our way back. Arrive in Grand Cayman the following afternoon.
